The Listener's Guide to lockjaw radio PART 1

21 episodes. Over 24 total hours of commentary. Thomas skews facts 23 times. Jose mentions Seth Godin 17 times. These are just a few of the nuggets of goodness that lockjaw radio has produced since October 2005.

We’re taking a week off this week (Thomas is traveling), so we thought we would rewind and take a look back at how we made it through 21 doses of this thing we like to call lockjaw radio.

So we present PART ONE of three posts—-our listener’s guide to lockjaw radio, for all of you newbies who’d rather skip the duds and go straight for the more enlightening shows…..

DOSE #1:

Highlights: The first and shortest podcast at 14:55. This is where it all started. We were so cold and scared. We announced the Squidoo launch, and it was Jose’s first of many mentions of Seth Godin. The first review of Sony Bravia (to date, 3 total reviews).

Seth Godin

Little known facts: We made up our listener mail. Hey, it was our first show, ok? You may also notice that we just started out the show like we had been around forever. That’s because we edited out a couple of uh, false starts.

And, the theme music for this dose was replaced for subsequent doses.

DOSE #2:

Highlights: 22:17 running time. Introduction of our theme music and patented “In this dose of lockjaw radio…” intro. Had our first guest – Jamin Rathbun. Reviewed Red Robin. We ripped the Lamisil toenail fungus drug. LONG discussion of roles in new media – did we ever answer the question? No.

Little known fact: The theme music is by the Bill Perkins Quartet, with hot latin percussionist…. you guessed it, Jose Castillo.

DOSE #3:

Highlights: 35:25 running time. An experiment in ‘live’ podcasting that went way crazy. Recorded at a halloween party at Jose’s. Debut of our wives on lockjaw radio.

t

Little known fact: We had to ‘edit’ more than a few of our partygoing guests for…let’s say, spicy content.

DOSE #4:

Highlights: 40:38 running time. Debut of Fresca as the official beverage of lockjaw radio. Discussion of video podcasting, Coke ads Ebay It campaign, and Converse Gallery. First interaction with Across the Sound podcast. And another Seth Godin mention by Jose.

Little known fact: Thomas REALLY was choking on Fresca. Lockjaw radio was designed to originally be a ‘sales and marketing’ podcast. We solidified the direction as a marketing podcast in this dose.

DOSE #5:

Highlights: 47:56 running time. We found our hook with the introduction of brand2brand combat, and paired two unlikely candidates – Stormhoek Wine and the Dodge Charger. We talk about Wake up with the Captain parody, Boone Oakley, Mensa and Medicare website.

Little known facts: Thomas had yet to listen to bandwagon radio’s podcast up to this point, although he talked about the show quite a bit—sorry guys…. The story behind the brand2brand combat theme music? Mixed by the multi-talented Jose.

DOSE #6:

Highlights: 50:38 running time. Another review of Sony Bravia, A humorous conversation about New Jersey and Tennessee branding, Target vs. Geico, bookofcool.com.

Little known facts: Listeners responded to say they didn’t like us ‘competing’ in brand2brand combat. Most thought it made the show combative and destroyed our comradarie. So we ended the sparring in this dose, though we still picked our own brands to compare.

DOSE #7:

Highlights: 43:14 running time. We review GE, McDonald’s McRib and X-Box ads. We pitted Southwest Airlines vs. Google. Received our first WaxMail from it’s creator, Jeremy Hague.

Little known fact: We talked about our past careers in this dose: Jose worked in retail and a ropes course instructor. Thomas was a waiter and a house painter at one point.

DOSE #8:

Highlights: 48:32 running time. Brand2brand combat features Best Buy vs. Circuit City. Jose promotes InBubbleWrap.com, which leads to fame and fortune (more former than latter). Joseph Jaffe sends us his book “Life After the 30 Second Spot” to review.

Little known fact: Jose takes his 2 year old daughter Sophia to Starbucks every Saturday morning. She prefers a nice doppio espresso.

I love that this photo keep popping up Jose. I think you’ve developed a strange fascination with it.
